Abstracting Punctuation – A New Visual Language

In this project, we applied the same technique used in our previous work, dividing the canvas diagonally, but instead of numbers or letters, we focused on punctuation marks like exclamation points, question marks, and ellipses. These symbols, essential to conveying tone and emotion in written language, were deconstructed into new shapes through diagonal dissections and reassembly.

The result is a collection of abstract forms that, while no longer immediately recognizable as punctuation, still evoke the energy and emotion of speech. By transforming these important elements of the English language into visual art, we’ve created a new set of symbols that play with the boundaries between communication and abstraction.
