Welcome to
Embarking on a journey of endurance and discovery, I set out to see how far I could walk in 24 hours. With a goal of two marathons, I aimed to push my limits and achieve the seemingly mythical 100km.
At 36 years old and weighing 107kg, I’m no athlete. However, inspired by Alastair Humphreys and his #MicroAdventures, I decided to take on a challenge that would test my limits. With the goal of walking 100km in one day, I drew inspiration from Humphreys’ approach to finding adventure in the ordinary.
“The Preparation”
My preparation involved regular 50km walks around Amsterdam’s A10, integrating into our family’s New Year’s resolution of walking 1000 miles in 2021. Each walk became an adventure, blending the monotonous with the extraordinary. Here’s a helpful tip: a good audiobook can be your best companion. A bad one might make you question your sanity as you trudge around the city.
“The Journey”
The day began at 5:15am with the intention of completing a longer loop. After a challenging first lap plagued by heat and blisters, I faced the task of completing a second lap. With clouds offering respite and the support of pasta and caffeine, I pushed through the fatigue. As night fell, my energy waned, but the goal was in sight.
“The Achievement”
In 23 hours and 5 minutes, I covered 100.2km. The journey was grueling, yet deeply rewarding. This experience, while not for everyone, taught me a lot about resilience and the power of pushing beyond perceived limits.
twenty three hours and five minutes later and it was
DONE!
