This is Ruben and his portrait belongs to our series which applies a reconstruction process to portraits of people living on the margins of the city of Amsterdam
These are the individuals which are constantly seen yet rarely truly observed. In daily life they exist in peripheral vision: recognised, avoided, and passed by without engagement. The kaleidoscopic grid both clarifies and obscures them; the image appears sharp and structured, almost pixelated, yet the person dissolves within it. This tension mirrors our social behaviour. We register their presence but struggle to hold their identity. The work becomes less a portrait of an individual and more a portrait of attention: how we look without looking, and remember without knowing.
