Discovering Kuti Wildlife Reserve: An Unexpected Adventure

Sometimes, the best travel experiences come from unexpected invitations. That’s exactly what happened when I met a guy who knew a guy and he offered me a chance to hang out with them for a few days. In exchange for Free camping, I would volunteer 5 hours a day of manual labour as to help get the place up and running, ready for the next season.

The guy I knew had just started a new job at Kuti Wildlife Reserve. A place which is described in the brochure as:
A captivating destination in the heart of Malawi dedicated to wildlife preservation.
With no large carnivorous animals and its ease of access, Kuti provided a unique opportunity to encounter wildlife like zebras, baboons, and giraffes up close.
But here’s the magic:
Kuti Wildlife Reserve is not your typical safari destination. Instead of traditional game drives, you have the freedom to borrow bikes and embark on your own cycle safari. This was an absolutely brilliant and utterly liberating. I mean, peddaling through the reserve, I was able to enjoyed the freedom to explore at my own pace. Although I’m sure that I missed some hidden gems because I didn’t know exactly what I was looking for.
BUT and here’s the but, the joy of cycling through such a stunning landscape made up for it.

God I miss my bike with living on the road.
