Deconstructing and Reconstructing Numbers

PROJECT 2v2

Each number, from 0 to 9, is intrinsically connected-a combination, in some sense, of all the other digits. In this subproject, we’ve taken each number and broken it down before reconstructing them into new shapes, new numbers, layer by layer. These forms resemble the original numbers, but they also become something unfamiliar-yet deeply recognisable.

This process has been repeated hundreds of times, creating unique records of these sequences. It has become the foundation for our exploration of bringing these numbers into the physical world, using materials like paint and wood. However, the concept itself plays with the idea of actualising numbers that, in reality, do not exist. The numbers we use every day exist only as abstractions in our minds-they have no tangible presence in the world.
