My brother was on a relaxing break in Thailand, enjoying some much-needed downtime, and the last thing he probably wanted was his backpacking brother showing up to crash his peaceful holiday. Naturally, I decided to make the time and effort to ensure I ruined his vacation by spending some quality time with him.

Our styles of vacation couldn’t be more different. While he was soaking up the luxury of a resort, I was fresh off a flight, still carrying the dust of my last Africa and easter Europe on my hiking boots. In fact, I had to shower at his place because my budget accommodation didn’t have a working shower. But hey, his pool was amazing-it gave me the perfect space to unwind and plot my next move. – East, but how far?

Though I might have interrupted his tranquility, those few days were a chance for us to reconnect, laugh, and swap stories from different worlds and life lived over the past year or so.
