Exhibition Overview:
My work explores identity as both personal experience and the afterlife of empire. Born Black and British to a white mother and a Caribbean father, I am in many ways a product of colonial history: my father’s lineage tracing back to West Africa, my mother shaped by working-class Britain, and myself growing up in the ruins of empire.

Across projects, I use processes of fragmentation and reconstruction to explore how identity is reshaped. In The One-Minute World News, BBC bulletins become stark black-and-white traces of fleeting headlines. In Remix (Sierra Leone) and Amsterdam Portraits, faces are dismantled and reassembled, raising questions of ancestry, migration, and belonging. In Cells, identity is inscribed in blood itself, while A World of Colour draws from travels across India and Africa (landscapes marked by empire) to capture encounters of renewal.

My work invites reflection on how we construct and reconstruct ourselves in a fractured world.
